The Architect, guided by The Allseer's vision, meticulously designed a city unlike any other. It was to have highly defendable positions throughout, enchanted brickwork, magical runes, wards, and enough resources to sustain itself indefinitely. Searching across the surface of Inventa, The Architect settled upon a region for this city which lies within the country of Margola today.
Spreading these plans to the Creations through their dreams, his followers began work on the momentous task of constructing the bastion. It took many years, however over time the city rose from the plains, a gleaming beacon of white marble and intricate details. Lush gardens flourished within its walls as druidic Creations worked alongside the architects and engineers leading the way, giving symbolism to life's enduring spirit. The marvel was named Mehrd, and signified a new era of light and prosperity.
As the city was built The Allseer recognised the need for guardians, even against The Balance’s wishes. She called upon The Forge Matron, to construct mighty protectors for Mehrd. The Forge Matron, emboldened by the spirit of unity sweeping Inventa and revelling in the thrill of such freedom created something fierce and new: Dragons.
From the heart of volcanoes emerged the Metallic Dragons, their scales were a breathtaking display of metallic hues. Some gleamed like sunlight captured in golden scales, while others shimmered with the cool elegant glimmers of moonlight. Deep, burnished brass hinted at their origin of the celestial forges, while reddish-brown scales, ignited with metallic flecks, resembling polished copper. Lastly, a metallic bronze with a greenish cast, evoked the patina of an ancient artifact. These magnificent creatures, imbued with immense power by The Forge Matron, possessed an unwavering sense of justice and peace.
The Creations looked upon the Metallic Dragons with awe and a fear. However, the Dragons were imbued with a sense of responsibility and respect for the citizens of Mehrd and so readily pledged themselves as protectors. This marked the beginning of a unique partnership, a symbiosis between strength and ingenuity.
Over many years, Mehrd became a melting pot of races. Humans, Ironfored, Warborn, Feybound, and Wildkin, lived in harmony alongside outsider races from other planes of existence with who they had previously clashed. The city survived and thrived on cooperation and innovation. Scholars delved into forgotten lore, writing the history we know today, whilst artisans crafted magnificent works of art and architecture. Poets, lyrists, and writers told tales of the heroes who fought in The All Lives War, their tales serving as a reminder of the fragility of peace.
Despite the prevailing peace, whispers of The Banished Gods still lingered. Some clung to the belief that the evil deities were plotting their return, building temples in their honour outside the walls of Mehrd. Others, particularly those who had previously worshipped The Banished Gods, felt a nagging sense of emptiness and so travelled to seek their beliefs elsewhere. These expats, while a minor threat compared to the devastation of The All Lives War, served as a constant reminder of the darkness that resided beyond the borders of Inventa.
The era of The Mehrd Metallic Protectors wasn't without its challenges. Monsters, bolstered by the weakened state of the land, roamed the wilderness, creating their own history and clashing with Creations where their paths crossed. Rogue factions, driven by greed or ambition, constantly threatened the fragile peace. Yet, in each instance, the Creations and the Dragons stood together, their combined strength proving formidable.
The Mehrd Metallic Protectors era stands as a testament to the power of unity and cooperation. It serves as a reminder that even in the aftermath of great destruction, hope can blossom. This golden age, with its harmony and innovation, left a lasting legacy that would inspire generations to come.
Whilst The Materium was in peace war was exploding on the evil planes, and the Battle of the Nine Hells was just getting started.
